Cabin Bluff

The last 72 hours of my life have been a complete rollercoaster. There is literally too much to type, explain, and tell you, so let's just leave it at that. Rollercoaster.

Sunday morning Josh, Tillman, and I loaded up the car bright and early and were on the road before 7:00am. We drove down to meet up with Mom and Dad in Summerville and then we rearranged all of our luggage so the five of us could carpool together down to Woodbine, GA to Cabin Bluff, near the Cumberland River. Cabin Bluff is a nature/rustic/wildlife resort that is owned by my dad's employer, MeadWestvaco. His division was offered a special deal to come and enjoy the retreat, so we gladly accepted when Mom and Dad offered for us to join them. They went last year and had nothing but good things to say about their experience. I can honestly tell you that Josh and I feel the same way. Our only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer. Cabin Bluff is a little slice of heaven. The atmosphere and ambience of the resort is wonderful; so relaxing, calming, soothing, and pleasant.

One of the neat things about Cabin Bluff, and I think Josh nailed it on the head, is that everything, and I mean everything is taken care of for you. To quote Josh, "It's like somebody has already thought of everything for you and taken care of it." There are coolers ($400 Yeti coolers, Josh looked it up) everywhere, at every event or stop you go to filled with sodas, waters, powerades, juices, etc. Your room comes equipped with a fully loaded refrigerator of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There are bowls of peanuts everywhere you go, drinks everywhere, it's all taken care of for you. The golf carts were just sitting around waiting on you to go up and drive one. The fishing lines were ready with live bait, coolers, a cleaning station, and whatever you caught, the chef would prepare it for you for dinner if you would like, or he would clean it, scale it, and vacuum seal it for you so you can take it home and cook it or put it in your freezer. Just a bunch of little luxuries that all really added up to make you feel like you were getting pampered and well taken care of.

And before I get carried away with the pictures, I must mention the food. THE FOOD. While my mom and I are not very adventurous eaters, Josh and my dad most certainly are.  So they got a little thrill out of the meals each day and night. Breakfast was delicious, your pretty typical hot breakfast items, but delicious. Some items offered for lunch and dinner include: fried shrimp, fried fish, cole slaw, the world's best cornbread, sausage and something gumbo, she crab soup, flounder, BBQ sliders, BBQ quesadillas, quail, steamed veggies, Josh would claim the world's best fried potato salad, corn and shrimp gumbo, peach cobbler, chocolate bread pudding, fried chicken, and many other things of which I am drawing a blank. Needless to say, we stayed well-fed.

Let's move on to some of our experiences while there and then I'll give you a brief tour via pictures:
Things we did:
- Fishing
- Josh & Dad shot 250 sporting clays
- Golf carts
- Ate, and ate, and ate
- Swimming
- Walks (Dad ran, of course)
- Swings
- Mingled w/ other guests and MeadWestvaco employees
- Tillman had a nice fall
- Saw lots of wildlife!
(What was seen by somebody in our family, but not necessarily all of us: armadillo, wild boars, stingrays, sharks, fish, crabs, horseshoe crabs, fox, quail, shrimp, alligator...)
- Shopped the gift shop numerous times
- Relaxed!
- and anything else I forgot will hopefully show up in the pictures.

And, the picture tour:
The cabin we stayed in, facing the water and connected to the breakfast/lunch dining hall. We couldn't have asked for a better location.

The tavern - our dinner dining hall & pool tables.

One of the areas for happy hour/hors d'evours

Bocce Ball, equipped w/ cooler

Our view from the front porch of our cabin - the dock - This is also where we did our fishing. They also had boats you could go out in.

Checking out the catches of the day so far.

Relaxed already.

Grandpa very proud to be giving us the grand tour.

The walk to the pool.

Jacuzzi - Tillman wasn't a big fan of the aggressive jets.

The pool, right near the natural water.

The fully functioning juke box in the pool house.

Our room, view #1

Our room, view #2

Yep, this guy was hanging upside down from the ceiling in the living room of our cabin. I actually liked him a lot. I didn't care for the boar, the albino mouse, or the snake too much. They were just ugly.

Our room (deer) Tillman always knew which room was ours because she knew to look for the deer head.

Mom & Dad's room (boar) Tillman would say, "Pig. Eww." I think she got that from me.

The living room

The living room, a different view.

Where we did our fishing. - equipped with cooler, fishing lines, live bait, and a cooler to put your catches in.

Enjoying our time at Cabin Bluff!

I thought you could see it, but now I'm not sure...our little alligator friend lives in the pond next to the pool. It was fun to try and find him each time we crossed the bridge.

Grandma giving Tillman private swimming lessons.

The girls, lounging by the pool.

You can see T's bump on her forehead here. Long story.

My little diva.

Josh baiting his line.

Mom and Dad weren't too interested in the fishing part. They opted for a walk instead.

So excited to catch a fish on my 2nd cast out! He's turned sideways. I think he was a yellowtail something. It was either that or a croaker.

T driving the golf cart. She loved it.

I thought this was a really cool looking falcon's nest in a barren tree. This is on the golf course.

Grandma and Grandpa pulling up to say hello. (Actually, they were pulling up because we got lost and needed to decide where to go.)

Grandpa taking the lead.

Just another beautiful view from the weekend.

This was one of Tillman's favorite activities. She kept saying, "More! Whee!"

I don't think Grandpa minded it either.

Monday night's happy hour.

They are so cute!

Pool room decor. Pretty neat.

Not sure this is how you play pool, but if Grandpa says it's ok, then it's ok.

Dinner fun

Too much fun

She's still quacking like a duck.

Grandpa was too, but I just missed it. Look at the smile. I love it. That's what being a grandparent is all about. Quality.   Some of his other co-workers enjoyed the show too. It's not often they get to see John Franks quacking like a duck at the dinner table.

Night fishing - That guy came up flapping.

Night fishing and enjoying my new Cabin Bluff LS-t.  Like Josh said, I'm a sucker for a LS-t.

Reading to her babydoll on the car ride home. Priceless.

Whew, we were only there from Sunday-Tuesday, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time and tried to soak up every minute. Josh has already informed my parents that if this opportunity comes around again next year to go ahead and sign us up. We love you, Cabin Bluff!!
